After a fantastic Summer, Autumn has rolled in quickly...
As the evenings get darker and the nights longer we all need peace of mind that we are secure in our homes. There are lots of measures we can take to deter unwanted visitors in the middle of the night.
Ensure the outside of your house is well lit. Thieves don’t want to be seen, so the better lit your property is the less likely they are to target it. You could have decorative LED lights that are suitable to leave on all night or motion detector lights that only come on when they detect movement.
Having cameras on your property can provide a great deterrent for would be thieves. There are several different systems, from a basic wired camera that connect to a monitor within your home to wireless cameras that are linked to an app on your phone, so you can view the cameras wherever you are.
As there are so many different types of alarms on the market the best way to decide which one would be best for you is to firstly decide what you would like to happen when your alarm goes off:
- Bells-only alarms make a noise, but don't contact anyone (such as the police or you).
- Dialler burglar alarms automatically dial your phone number, or that of nominated friends and family, when the alarm is triggered.
- Smart home-security systems contact you or family members when the alarm goes off through a smartphone or tablet app.
- A monitoring contract means you pay a company monthly or annually to take action or call the police if the alarm goes off.
